Spotlight: Volcov

Volcov, otherwise known as Enrico Crivellaro is an Italian DJ, Producer and collector. Since the late 1980s he has deejayed all around the world playing jazz inspired and soul infused tunes that are rarely seen in Italy’s mainstream house scene.

Volcov has also earned a lot of respect from DJs such as Sadar Bahar and Theo Parrish who have showcased many of his disco edits worldwide. Volcov’s love for vintage music ensures that all his edits are incredibly loyal to their originals, capturing the same classic sound. His edit of Samuel Johnathan Johnson’s ‘Sweet Love’ (SJNRL, 2010) is a great example below.

Beyond his renowned disco edits, Crivellaro also produces under the name Isoul8. Under this alias, he produces deep jazzy house that is quite reminiscent of work of the jazz-master Glenn Underground. This is demonstrated clearly on his last E.P. ‘On My Heart’ which came out on his own label, Neroli, last year.

Not only has Volcov received great support from world renowned record labels such as Rush Hour but he also has the experience of running two record labels himself (Neroli and Archive) which have feature producers such as Dego & 2000 Black Family, Domu, Lars Bartkuhn and Trinidadian Deep.

Having also released various compilations such as ‘The Crystal Collection’ (Archive, 2015) and ‘…From the Archive’ (BBE, 2016), Volcov clearly has a passion for a compiling songs and has developed a reputation as a talented record digger. Securing impressive bookings at Dekmantel and their Selectors festival speaks volumes. His DJ sets are eclectic and contain everything from jazz, to broken beat and from deep house to disco.
