A city never short of musical delights to get involved with, Leeds continues to stay true to form this weekend. With a forecast of scorching proportions, we round-up our day-by-day best picks of the wide-ranging offering, to keep your sun-soaked bank holiday rolling.
On Friday On Rotation prepare to take us to new dimensions, welcoming Salon Des Amateurs affiliate, Vladimir Ivkovic for his Leeds debut. Teaming up with Outlaws Yacht Club, Ivkovic will begin playing an early evening set there, before moving on to Wharf Chambers to party further into the morning. With a passion for playing records at unconventional speeds (Hardcore and Trance at 33rpm), Ivkovic goes across the board in selection. From Post-Punk and Wave to cutting-Electro and Breaks, his sets always maintain a strong theme that manifests in a twisted yet driving musical experience. Alongside Ivkovic, upcoming-female selector, Luce also joins the line up with Joe Gill and On Rotation head, Alex T; expect equally spell-binding selections from all talents on this bill.
Not ones to do things by halves, On Rotation have teamed up with extended family from the Leeds scene, Puddles and Relic, for an after-party at increasingly popular venue Eiger Studios. Head here if you want to keep your feet moving with a peppering of Leeds’ best local party-starters.
Moving into Saturday night, well-loved, Pumping Gay Dance-Party, Love Muscle bring the incredible Octa Octa to heat the floor at Wharf Chambers. Hailing from Brooklyn, Transgender producer and DJ Octa Octa was propelled to the forefront of house music’s attention back in 2011, with the release of her debut EP ‘Let Me See You’. Her blend of breaks and soulful vocals with classic house beats and piano melodies are transferable to her DJ sets, that showcase her seamless mixing style. Having only announced this party last week, Love Muscle do love to keep us on our toes. However as always, tickets will be low and the vibes will be high. Indeed, a very special Saturday in store for everyone involved.
After such a whirlwind start to the weekend, Sunday might be the time to take some rest. However, for those unwilling to waste a rare Monday off, there is still always room for one final helping of music before re-entering the working week. Female and Non-Binary promoters, Equaliser have billed Korean-American, Yaeji to play their day party at Sheaf St. All profits from this party will go towards funding free DJ and music production workshops, for cis women, trans women, non-binary and trans people. Joining Yaeji is the Equaliser residents, promising a day of dreamy beats with possible sprinklings of techno and acidic-glimmers. Pop down and soak up some well-deserved TLC from this lovely bunch (check out our recent Equaliser feature here).
