One of the legends of the highly-regarded Detroit music scene, Theo Parrish, returns to the capital for the first time since October to perform as part of a showcase of his label.
Five Miles – tucked away in between Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters – is hosting the party with promoters REAL GOLD. Parrish will play alongside Sound Signature newcomer Nicole Misha this coming Friday. Parrish performed in London for a Sound Signature event at E1 last April and continues the trend of regularly showcasing various artists from his imprint in venues all over the world. Sound Signature, now entering its 22nd year, has always been a purveyor of rising talents with the label still striving to be a staple in the dance music community.
Five Miles has been garnering a lot of attention in its relatively short lifespan in London so far; they boast a full range audiophile PA system in collaboration with some of the best acousticians in Europe that is claimed to be the first of its kind. Although an infant compared to other venues, Five Miles has still racked up an impressive back catalogue of events hosting the likes of Rhythm Section, Daphni, Interstellar Funk, Scuba, Floating Points and Four Tet since 2017.
The Detroit native has been making music for over 30 years now and has had a substantial influence on the music that arose from the motor city in the early 90’s. His multi-instrumental ability has seen him collaborate with artists including Tony Allen, Carl Craig, Omar-S, Matthew Herbert and Henrik Schwarz across his illustrious career – his work ranging from avante-garde jazz and funk to dancefloor-ready house and techno with seminal pieces including “Lost Angel” and “Heal Yourself And Move”.
